"Light, sweet, and pleasant"

These definitely need some aging time. The first stick I tried had a crazy amount of bitterness to it. After 3 weeks in the humi though, these are amazing. The are mild, with a huge amount of sweetness that builds throughout the pallet. I caught some vanilla in there, and some cedar toward the end of it. All in all, very pleasant.

"I don't get it"

Nice enough looking cigar, but little or no taste. This came as a single from a shop with a big humi room, so I don't think condition is an issue.

"One of the Best Cigars I have smoked!"

I have been smoking cigars for the better part of 30 years. I have tried them all, and this is one Great Cigar. One of my all time favorite smokes when I visit my local smoke shop, Emersons at Greenbrier in Chesapeake, Va. I Will recommend it to all my friends.

"I Like 'em......."

I like this Merlin size of the Excal 1066. Easy draw, good flavor and a relatively quick smoke (20-30 minutes). Pick'em up!

"A very nice medium to full, peppery cigar"

The Excalibur 1066 is nice change of pace from the standard Excalibur. Just as smooth, but with a nice medium-to-full spicy and peppery flavor. A great choice when you want something with good flavor, but not a big powerful maduro.

"Very Flavorfull"

I tried the Merlin because I was curious to try a Hoyo de Monterey with a Cameroon wrapper. (I really enjoy the flavor of the regular Hoyos' with a natural wrapper) The wrappers are almost golden colored for cameroons, not dark and chocolatey like a Partagas. The feel of them is amazing, and if you look at them in morning sunlight, you can see the hairs on the leaf standing up, and intact.Very appealing. The draw was perfect for a cigar of this ring gauge. (I usually prefer coronas, for burn and draw.) The cigar stayed pefectly lit, and the flavor was smooth, medium bodied and balanced. Not at all sharp or bitter. This is a good alternative to Fuente. I enjoy Fuentes' but the wrappers are way too thin, and they are prone to shattering with slight provocation. Maduros are too thick skinned, which makes them always problematic to keep lit, as well as being bitter. This is a really good flavor for the price, and as far as all of the problems the other reviewers had with the Maduros, don't but them. Buy these beauties with a Cameroon wrapper instead. 4 out of 5.

"Excellent Choice"

This cigar burns well, has good ash, medium flavor. Very good for the price.

"Good Smoke"

Beautiful Wrapper and extraodinary white ash. If you like Excaliburs - you might appreciate this smoke. It just doesn't quite have the flavor and after taste of the regular Excaliburs. I want to like it because it looks so good - but I would buy an Epicure before this one.

"Overall, the same as all Hoyo de Monterrey cigars"

This line, not just the Merlin, is better constructed than the other Hoyo and Excalibur lines; but the tobacco is the same tasteless garbage at an unjustifiably inflated price.

I recently received an oreder of Excalibur 1066 Merlins. Thes are excellent. A full robust flavor but not harsh. A very smooth and nutty flavor with consistent draw. I rate it an 8.5 in all categories
